CLAN or political leaders found inciting people into land wrangles in Amuru district will be prosecuted, the resident district commissioner, Edwin Yakobo Komakech, has warned.

He was meeting the residents of Apar village, Pabbo sub-county over a land dispute between the Pabbo and Lamogi clans on Tuesday. The land is located at Lakang and Fakata in Amuru district.

The Lamogi said the land has belonged to them since 1911.

But the Pabbo clan said they have stayed on the land for long and were only displaced by the Lord’s Resistance Army war. They argued that this qualifies them to be the bona fide occupants of the land.

“Another issue bringing land conflict in Amuru is self-allocation of chunks of land by individuals yet after doing so, they sell it off,” Komakech added.

He urged the people to resettle in their villages, saying they should not be stopped from occupying their ancestral land.

Amuru district Police commander Justino Ovuru said land wrangles were caused by greedy and dishonest clan chiefs and appealed for unity.

District woman MP, Concy Aciro called for dialogue between the clans to settle all disputes.
