The striptease craze, known as kimansulo has hit Kampala again.
The erotic nude dance, where girls take off their clothes and dance in front of the audience, has returned to many of Kampala pubs. Many pubs which have karaoke as part of their programme, openly perform kimansulo.

Police spokesman, Simeo Nsubuga said it is a tricky situation because the police have no powers to close bars unless Kampala City Council asks them to. He insists that kimansulo is illegal. “We know kimansulo has returned. As far as the police is concerned, we have been arresting the dancers. It had faded, but has come back,” Nsubuga said.

However, Nsubuga says that the kimansulo can only be handled by KCC which gives license and regulates bar operators.

Simon Muhumuza, the city council’s Public Relations Officer said whenever they learn of any bar housing kimansulo, they close it.

Some of the bars suspected to house kimansulo include ELA Pub, Makerere Close on Wednesdays, New Life Bar on Fridays and Sundays. Others are in Kamwokya, Rubaga, Kabusu, Park View on Luwum Street and Ndeeba.

It is said the dance begins as a normal karaoke night and towards midnight, it changes to erotic nude dance. Entrance at many of the bars Saturday Vision visited is strictly manned. Cameras and under 18 are strictly forbidden.

Saturday Vision discovered that on Fridays, New Life Bar in Nakulabye presents The Naked Virgins who belong to a group known as Angels.
