SUSPECTED Stanbic bank robbers who tried to break into the Moroto branch early November have been arrested.

The arrests were made in Abim and Lira districts last week after a fortnight trail by security operatives.

“We have arrested the three suspects. The lady is still at large together with the car they were traveling in when they tried to break into the bank,” the district internal security officer, Osbert Okello, said.

Okello said the suspects have divulged useful information that will help the Police net more thugs.
“For example, the plan to rob the bank was drawn in Kampala. They held meetings in Lira and Abim districts but failed to fulfill their plans,” he said.

The regional Police commander north-eastern, Okot Obwana, said on Monday the suspects had been arrested and they would be produced in court soon.

“The thugs gave policemen some cigarettes and waragi which had chloroform sending them weary and unable to stay alert,” Obwana said.

However, the Police acted very fast replacing those who had been drugged.

“As investigations continue they will be produced in court to answer charges as we look at the methodology of recovering the gun,” Obwana said.

He said the Police who were drugged had recovered after treatment in Moroto Hospital and would help with the investigations.
Karimojong warriors foiled an attempt to rob the bank’s branch in Moroto at the beginning of November.

The warriors who became furious after realising that there was foul play demanded the identities of the night visitors who had parked at the bank premises at midnight on a Saturday.
