Six suspects escape from Entebbe Police Station
SIX suspects, two of them accused of defilement, on Sunday night escaped from Entebbe Police Station. The men, according to Police chief Hillary Kulaige, fled through the station ceiling at 11:00pm, bringing the number of related incidents to two in three months.

SIX suspects, two of them accused of defilement, on Sunday night escaped from Entebbe Police Station. The men, according to Police chief Hillary Kulaige, fled through the station ceiling at 11:00pm, bringing the number of related incidents to two in three months.
Kulaige told The New Vision yesterday that the detainees drilled a hole in the ceiling using a pipe before they run off.
“It was not a big hole but they managed to squeeze through,†Kulaige said by phone, adding that a sink from which the detainees picked the pipe was in the cell.
He identified the suspects as Hamisi Kawuma and Brian Lubega, who were held over defilement, Holy Kawuyo, arrested for arson, Moses Muhwezi accused of assault, Yasin Okunga on charges of criminal trespass and Christopher, who was found with stolen property.
However, Kawuyo and Lubega’s freedom was short-lived after they were re-arrested.
In addition to the first offences, the suspects will be charged with escaping from lawful custody.
In August, four men escaped through a hole they had drilled in the ceiling. Two of them were re-arrested.
Kulaige attributed the incident to a weak ceiling, which he said is easily dented by sharp objects.
“We wrote to the estates department which sent an engineer to assess the ceiling. The concrete needs to be reinforced,†he said.
He was optimistic that the escapees would be found.
