The practice of coming up with lists of the most corrupt institutions will not stop the vice. We have to start looking at the root cause of corruption if we are to eliminate it.

Although it is true that some individuals are inherently corrupt, the government policy on privatisation is one of the leading causes of corruption.

When the Government excused itself from the provision of public goods by selling off all its establishments, it created a situation of the jungle. It is now survival of the fittest. Wanainchi have to provide for themselves on all fronts. If the Government took the responsibility of providing free, but quality education, free health services, cheap, but efficient public transport, housing and other social infrastructure, most citizens would not need to be corrupt to survive.

Some people steal public funds to invest in projects that the Government has pulled out of. The Government should go back to the drawing board and re-invest in public infrastructure. This will greatly reduce the rampant corruption we are currently experiencing.
