FIRST Lady Janet Museveni campaigned yesterday for the NRM party candidate for the Kyadondo North seat, Robert Kasule Ssebunya.

The seat fell vacant when Kibirige Ssebunya, the Minister of State for Agriculture, passed away recently.

Addressing a rally at Kagoma village, Janet Museveni hailed women for supporting the party and urged them to vote for Kasule Ssebunya, so he can complete his father’s work. The election takes place tomorrow.

Janet travelled with 14 NRM women MPs who described themselves as the Yellow Girls Brigade. The group that travelled in a yellow coaster and was clad in yellow dresses, the party colour, was led by Rosemary Sseninde (Wakiso).

Mrs. Museveni met NRM supporters at Nabweru sub-county headquarters, at the Kawanda Country Inn and also visited Kabumbi in Nansana where she met the followers of Owobushobozi religious group.

Mrs. Museveni said as the mothers of the nation, women should champion the political agenda. She was optimistic that they would remember the good things the NRM government had done and vote its candidate.

She said if elected to Parliament, Kasule would continue linking the area to the Government and continue with his father’s programmes.

The NRM, she said, has laid a firm foundation for the country, Mrs. Museveni urged the women to continue supporting the NRM to complete its programmes.

“Dr. Ssebunya left a hole in our NRM house which you should fill by voting his son,” she said and urged the women to be patient, saying they would finally reap from the fruits of supporting the Government.

“Many opposition candidates will come with loud music and tell you many negative issues about the Government, but you know better where this country has come from and where we are going,” she said.
She promised to return to the area after the campaign.

The other candidates are Regina Bakitte (DP), Pallyne Nakabuye (FDC), Ssentamu Ssewandagi (the People’s Progressive Party), Kizito Nsubuga (independent) and Amina Nakiyaga (independent).

President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM chairperson, the leaders of FDC, DP and PPP have been there to rally support for their candidates.

Ssewandagi’s and Nakabuye’s supporters yesterday clashed, prompting the Police to intervene.
