STARTING this week, advertisers in The New Vision will be able to place and pay for classified adverts using their mobile phones. The advertising innovation, Croc’s Katale, is targeting small business owners.
“Croc’s Katale is specifically designed to help those who cannot afford large scale advertising. We want to give them an opportunity to sell their products and services and make announcements in a quick and very cost-effective way,†said Tony Glencross, Vision Group’s sales and marketing manager.
Glencross said this will open the door for small businesses which initially felt side-lined by large scale advertising. “They will be able to reach hundreds of potential customers in different parts of the country cheaply,†he said.
The adverts have been placed in seven categories, each with a code: properties (100), motoring (120), jobs & vacancies (200), items for sale (300), services (400), greetings/obituaries (500) and clubs/hobbies (550).
“You don’t have to come to The New Vision offices to place and pay for a classified advert. All you will do is to type the keyword of the category of your advert, the information you want to pass on and send the message to 8778 (UTL), 0902 090 000 (MTN) or 0907 777121 (WARID),†Glencross said.
He clarified that the message is limited to 130 characters. Each SMS will cost sh20,000.
After successfully sending the message, the individual will receive a confirmation stating when the advert will run. Croc’s Katale will run every Tuesday in The New Vision and on Saturday in the Saturday Vision.
It will work alongside the usual advertising by large scale businesses.
