THAT BRO Group were the winners at the annual corporate league dinner awards held at Hotel Africana last Friday told one story: actively involve management in sports, and you will run out of space in the trophy cabinet.

Even though WBS TV won the football trophy and produced the best male player in Dennis Bogere, they and other corporates lost out to BRO group, on account of failing to participate in other sports apart from football.

A black tie affair: the invites read; but you could mistake the dinner for a jeans galore, it was as well ex-chairman Mike Kajubi used his time on the podium cursing the very existence of jeans!

Grandeur best described Friday’s do.
For the record, beer lasted as long as there were speeches and trophies to give; this wasn’t until 12:30am.

Even with the credit crunch, there were second helpings of food although many, at the first time heaped plates like they were scared of impending famine! Everyone was given a free DVD of the recorded games!

Hip Hop Sensation GNL Zamba and Toniks, proved the perfect choice for the corporate crowd which they engaged in earnest.

And bar the raucous and unnecessarily long speech from chairman Wills Tumwiine, who oft reminded the crowd to clap for him after endlessly praising his wife.

Murmurs swept across the room as public relations officer Hellen Kaweesa led the parliamentary team to pick the most disciplined team award.

AAR was the most social team while, Mogas was most organised team while their CEO, Geoffrey Rugozora was best in the category. Coca Cola’s Sam Otim was best goal keeper for the third year running.

With few of the 33 companies getting the trophies; majority were onlookers and coined their own awards.

That is how the New Vision team ended up with the Best drinker’s award!
