JINJA - The education ministry has warned of tough action against schools that have not implemented the thematic teaching curriculum, a programme meant to promote the use of local languages for instruction in lower primary. The commissioner for primary education, Dr. Daniel Nkaada, said: “If a child grasps the first language, they easily learn English.” He was officiating at the launch of the Children’s Reading Tent.

60 teachers face sack

BUGIRI - The district plans to terminate contracts of 60 primary school teachers next year. Addressing over 200 parents at the annual general meeting at Istiquama Primary School recently, the inspector of schools, Kawo Nayi Kawere, said the teachers were unqualified. He said the district needed 100 teachers to fill the gap.
