Shonubi to head EA law society

DR. Alan Shonubi has been elected president of the East African Law Society (EALS) in elections that were held in Zanzibar on November 30. He will serve a two-year term in office.

DR. Alan Shonubi has been elected president of the East African Law Society (EALS) in elections that were held in Zanzibar on November 30. He will serve a two-year term in office.

Another Ugandan lawyer, Anne Abeja-Muhwezi, was elected deputy secretary- general on the 19-member lawyers’ governing council.

The president of the Uganda Law Society, Oscar Kihika, became an automatic council member together with another Ugandan lawyer, Mike Okua.

Others who automatically became members of the law society are Maitre Marc Birihanyuma from Burundi, Maitre Vincent Gateera Gashabana from Rwanda, Eric Okongo’o Omogeni from Kenya and Yahya Khamis Hamad from Zanzibar.

Other members are Charles Rwechungura from Tanzania, who was elected as vice-president, James Aggrey Mwamu from Kenya, the general gecretary and Felix Kibodya from Tanzania, the treasurer.

Others on the council are Christine Mwikali Kipsang (Kenya), Justus Maithya Munyithya (Kenya), Julie Mwalongo (Tanzania), Antoine Nzobandora (Burundi), Emmanuel Rukingira (Rwanda), Salum Toufiq (Tanzania) and chief executive officer Donald Deya.
