The need to be entertained during this festive season should not be your worry especially with Free to Air Receivers bringing you various international channels.

Christopher Tumusiime, a technician at Market Street based Satellite Television, says instead of transmitting signals from the ground, satellite TV transmits from satellites orbiting the earth and they require special antennas pointing in specific directions to pick up specific satellite signals.

He says in Uganda, the known satellite TV services are paid ones offered by Multichoice and GTV.

Many people have started using Free to Air Receivers to access TV channels free of charge like the BBC and Sky news. The dish costs sh140,000 and the receiver also costs the same amount in town. Free to Air receivers on the market include brand names Pansat, Coolsat, Conaxsat.

Justin Nakiyemba, a dealer of satellite TV accessories, says it does not stop you from receiving local stations.
