It is that time of the year again, when merry and cheer is in high gear. It is also that time when a trip upcountry may be inevitable. While the adults will speedily pack their bags, some caution is needed when packing for the little ones.

It is annoying to find the baby’s toothbrush missing from your neatly packed bags. But even more important is minding your child’s health. You do not want a mad rush to a clinic in the midst of the festive season.

Avoid hurried packing. Sort out each child’s needs before packing. Is your child on medication? Slot all the medicines in the bag and tick it off your list. Include stomach ache relief medications, you never know what a slight change in diet might do.

Carry mosquito repellents like odomos which costs sh1,500 in pharmacies and do not forget a treated mosquito net. You cannot take chances.

Carry enough clothing and supplies, especially if you are travelling where they might be scarce. You might not easily find formula or cereal in some places.

Carry an extra pair of shoes and sandals so that the little one is not restricted. It happens often that a forgotten pair of slippers makes bath time an inconvenience. Remember to pack a food flask, several bottles of water and milk. Include snacks and a light meal for the trip to avoid food poisoning on the journey. Yoghurt, porridge, fruits like bananas, apples and juice are a necessity.

You need a thermometer; you never know when it will come in handy. And just in case accidents occur, you will need a first aid box with basics like plasters, cotton wool, disinfectant and bandages.

On a lighter note, do not forget toys and books. Children get bored easily.

Remember to carry:
-Medication
-Enough clothes
-First aid kit
-Toys and books
-Treated mosquito net
-Extra pair of shoes
