What is really wrong with Bugembe?

VICTORS FC, last year shifted from the crowded Kampala stadiums, to Jinja, where the people are loathing for sports action in order to improve on their fan-base.

During the time, Victors administrators worked on a strategy of making the club a favourite of the people - who remember the times when Nile FC omuliro, Nytil, Blue Bats and UMEME, where a darling of the Jinja crowds, and the efforts paid off.

The turn up to the club matches at Kakindu is an envy to most of the Kampala clubs due to their patriotism.
Victor’s winning the Kakungulu Cup last year, ensured that they became the country’s flag bearer in the CAF Confederation Cup, whose action starts on the weekend of January 30, when they take on Caps United of Zimbabwe in the elimination round.

However, with Kakindu stadium not good enough to host an international match, they looked at Bugembe — which will be hosting the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup matches — as their would be home ground for the continental encounters.

This had both a special implication of giving eastern Uganda the international football they have loathed for, and a financial implication of being easier to attract sponsors into a virgin area outside Kampala. Victors were marketing exactly that, as they seek for sh100m to make the first international outing a reality.

National Council of Sports has already given the team sh10m, but reports that the Bugembe ground is not good enough is already threatening their motive.

What is more disturbing is that no administrator had told them what is really wrong with the stadium, and discussed ways of improving it.

I think, its time administrators boldly come out and condemn the facility. A strategy should be drawn to have it improved. Bugembe should be helped to regain its status quo.
