A 26-year-old woman is admitted in Soroti Hospital after she was battered by her husband. Esther Ameso told The New Vision on Saturday that on the fateful day, her husband, Juventine Emaju, woke up and asked her to count all her boyfriends.

“Before I could respond, he started beating me using a hoe handle and later stubbed me several times on the head using a kitchen knife,” said Ameso, a resident of Abia, Gweri sub-county.
She said the husband beats her whenever he returns home drunk.

“In September, he beat me until I fainted. He ran away from home and returned after learning that I had not died,” she narrated. Ameso is unable to bathe and feed by herself.

Since the incident, Emaju has gone into hiding. He is believed to have gone to Kakira in Jinja.

Ameso’s sister Melda Ariokot, who is taking care of her, said, the case was reported to Amukaru Police post in Gweri sub-county.

The Soroti Police chief, Sam Musisi, however, said the case had not been reported. The couple has five children, the youngest being one year and seven months.
