LC TOOL BOX

The holiday season is here. Most primary and secondary schools have closed and many children are back home.

Local leaders have a duty to see that the children do not pick up bad habits during the holidays.

One of the pastimes children engage in is watching films in shanty video halls. Some of these video halls screen pornographic material that is not suitable for children.

In Kawempe Division, the assistant resident district commissioner, Edward Ssekabanja, recently banned children from video halls, after he found them watching pornography.

You can do the same in your area.

What to do
- Identify all video halls in your locality

- Invite the operators for a meeting and ask them not to screen pornographic material. Ask them not to allow children in the video halls.

- Pass minutes of this meeting to the area security officers.

- Unexpectedly carry out patrols to make sure these directives are adhered to.

- If you find a video hall showing children pornography, call the Police to help you close it
