THE Kampala Hilton Hotel will be open to the public by September, the AYA Group chairman, Hamid Mohammed, has said. Major construction works would be completed in January.

The 24-storey five-star hotel on Nakasero Hill in Kampala will have 300 rooms and eight presidential suites of international standards.

It will also have 11 lifts, a 1,000 capacity conference centre, three swimming pools, water falls and parking space for at least 1,500 cars.

Construction of the $100m facility started 26 months ago.

Mohammed said during an interview at his office, that the hotel was the first of its kind since independence to notch international standards.

“We are doing well. Comparing this hotel with a project like this in Europe, it would take like five years from conception to completion. Extra resources have been put in place. A big advantage is the quality of the design,” Mohammed said.

The hotel was designed by the world’s top hotel architect who specialises in Hilton hotels like the Frankfurt Hilton Hotel, which won an award for the best hotel in Europe in 2006.

In consultation with Hilton International and international design consultants, all the furnishings and fittings have been ordered for and are ready for delivery.
