THE second round of the Uganda Super League kicks off on January 17 with a match between Police and Sharing at Nakivubo.

THE second round of the Uganda Super League kicks off on January 17 with a match between Police and Sharing at Nakivubo.

The league, which resumes just four days after the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala and Jinja, will have six games the next day including a clash between Villa and URA.

KCC will host tricky Boroboro while Bugerere and Express host Victors and Kakira respectively.

Maji will take on Youfra while Mbarara and Nalubaale will conclude the busy weekend at Kakyeka stadium.

The fixture released yesterday by Uganda Super League Committee secretary Moses Magogo has some games played on Monday.

Bunamwaya will host Kinyara while Simba travel to Iganga on Monday.

The league will take a break from January 28 to February 2 to pave way for the Kakungulu Cup round of 16.

The league is scheduled to end on May 24 with nine games.

Consequently all 18 teams will play on the final day of the contest as battles for the league title and survival of relegation are expected to take centre stage.

At the same time, threefootball clubs in Gulu district have qualified for this year's FUFA zone three mini league.

The clubs are Gulu United FC who led the event with 22 points, Ker Kal Kwaro at 17 points and Junior Athletic who collected 11 points moved another step towards promotion to the Uganda Super Super League.

The event in Gulu attracted six teams.

Gulu District Football Association chairman Philip Lutara is optimistic one of the teams will eventually graduate to the top flight.

Lutara said the zonal league is expected to kick off in Pader in the first week of February 2009.

The event comes ahead of the regional super mini league after which the qualifiers to the Uganda Super League are determined.

Lutara added that said all the district though to the zone three mini league are expected to start training for the regional event early January.

Lutara said a programme for the training will discussed before the year ends.

There is a lot of enthusiasm about the zonal league in the district.

A number of individuals have vowed to offer a helping hand to the teams to prepare adequately for the event.
