THE man whose tongue was bitten off by a woman he allegedly attempted to rape on Christmas Day has been arrested.
The officer-in-charge of crime in Kibaale district, Michael Ogwal, identified the suspect as Wilberforce Sanyu, a pit swayer in Kyebando sub-county.
“We got a tip-off from the area chairperson of Kayanja village that there was a man hiding in the nearby bush and I deployed my detectives who arrested him and he is now in the cells,†Ogwal said.
He said the Police took Sanyu to Kibaale Health Centre IV and his condition was improving.
Sanyu cannot talk with ease as the tongue is swollen. Part of the tongue that was bitten off is still at Kibaale Police Station.
The victim, a resident of Kasenyi village in Kyebando sub-county, said she was returning from Kayanja Trading Centre at 11:00pm when Sanyu grabbed her and wanted to force her into sex.
“The man approached me and attacked me. He wrestled me down and started undressing me but by good luck, I bit off his tongue and he ran away,†she said.
Ogwal said the woman had been taken to the health centre for examination.
