Mbabazi launches campaign for NRM’s Byarugaba in Isingiro

MOVEMENT secretary general Amama Mbabazi has launched the campaign for the party flag-bearer Grace Byarugaba in the Isingiro district Woman parliamentary by-election.

MOVEMENT secretary general Amama Mbabazi has launched the campaign for the party flag-bearer Grace Byarugaba in the Isingiro district Woman parliamentary by-election.
The launch took place on Tuesday at Kabibingo Parents’ Primary School.
The seat fell vacant after the death of former MP Viccy Kyaka.
Mbabazi handed Byarugaba the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag and urged Movement delegates to work hard and ensure the party wins the by-election.
He asked the leaders to ensure that all Movement supporters vote on election day.
Mbabazi also told the delegates to ensure that their supporters are neither intimidated nor bought by the opposition.
He also urged Byarugaba to have trustworthy agents who cannot be compromised at all the polling stations to block the opposition from stealing votes and buying off Movement supporters.
Mbabazi said the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda People’s Congress and Democratic Party had resorted to stealing votes because they know that they do not have enough support to win elections.
He ranked FDC as number one in stealing votes, citing the Bugweri by-election, which he said was rigged.
“In Bugweri, they put their agents at polling stations and they induced our supporters with money to vote for them,†Mbabazi said.
He accused the opposition of intimidating voters, misleading them that the NRM rigs votes and inciting violence after they are defeated.
Mbabazi appealed to NRM supporters to love their party and work for it voluntarily. He added that NRM was the only party that can cause development for this country.
Mbabazi promised the residents of Isingiro that all their problems would soon be solved.
He offered sh1m for the construction of Karama road in Ruborogota Kabuyanda sub-county.
NRM supporters complained that Movement leaders do not interact with their supporters at the grassroots as much as the opposition leaders do.
They also complained that NRM party leaders only hold district delegate meetings during elections.
In response, Mbabazi argued that opposition leaders like FDC president Dr. Kizza Besigye had more time because they are idlers unlike NRM leaders who have state duties.
He said: “How can you compare me with Besigye? I am busy with security duties and I cannot be like Besigye who is an idler whose work is only to move in villages day and night.â€
The FDC candidate is Stella Kafureka.
