MINISTER Tarsis Kabwegyere yesterday clashed with the Bushenyi UPC chairman, Edward Rurangaranga, over the split of the district.

Prof. Kabwegyere is the disaster preparedness and relief minister.
Speaking at the burial of Enock Inshanga, a staunch Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) supporter, in Kakanju sub-county, Rurangaranga told off those who have vowed to die rather than see Bushenyi split.

“You better look for coffins those (of you) who do not want Bushenyi split into several districts,” Rurangaranga said.
Buhweju, Bunyaruguru, Sheema and Ruhinda counties have submitted their memoranda demanding that they be granted district status.

However, Kabwegyere assured Rurangaranga that he would never support the creation of new districts from Bushenyi.

Kabwegyere said he had even put it in writing why he was against the split.
He asked politicians to stop politicising funerals.

“If it was during your time (UPC regime), no one would be talking like that. He/she would be shot,” Kabwegyere noted.
Most mourners turned up dressed in UPC party colours.

Inshanga’s grave was also decorated in the UPC colours, while the coffin was draped in the party colours.
