PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has received an honourary doctorate degree of Divinity from the Latin University of Theology in California in the USA. Museveni received the degree from Dr. Manuel Tigerino, the president and founder of the university, at his home in Rwakitura in Kiruhura.

Tigerino said the award is in recognition and appreciation of museveni’s efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS and elevation of education in Uganda, according to a State House statement.

The degree is the highest honour offered by the university and is given to people who do great things for humanity.
Museveni expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed on him, saying he considers what he has done modest work.

He said despite what has been achieved, a lot still needed to be done in the education sector and in the fight against AIDS.

Tigerino is in Uganda on a 10-day visit to raise funds for constructing a children’s hospital in the country. He was accompanied by Dr. Lopez Ivan, a commissioner at the university and Dr. Clyde Rupers Jr, the university’s African Chapter’s commissioner.

Meanwhile, First Lady Janet Museveni received an honourary degree of Divinity from the same university yesterday.
She received the degree from Tigerino at State House, Nakasero.

Tigerino said it was in recognition of Janet’s fight against HIV/AIDS and promotion of abstinence and morality among the youth.

The university also gave her a $10,000 donation for a children’s hospital.
