THE Police in Jinja shot dead three suspected murderers after they attempted to flee arrest last week.

The thugs were suspected to have killed a peasant at Idome, Buwenge sub-county on the night of December 26.

A sub-machine gun and 29 bullets were recovered from them.

The suspects led the Police to where they had hidden the gun but tried to escape when the Police car’s tyre burst out on the Kamuli-Jinja highway.

“As the constables were trying to fix it, they jumped off and ran into a bush prompting the shooting,” said the Police.

The bodies were taken to Jinja mortuary.

The Police said the men confessed during interrogation that they shot dead Daki Mayuwano, 42, over a land wrangle.

Jinja district Police commander Chris Barugahare identified the dead as Stephen Waiswa, James Ndege and Charles Bageze.

Barugahare said Mayuwano and Stephen Waiswa conflicted over a land boundary.
