THE national cricket team has started preparations to play warm-up matches before the World Cricket League starts in Kenya.
Kenya invited Uganda for the friendly games that will precede the World Cricket League tournament January 30-February 7 in Nairobi.
Kenya, Canada, Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland and Bermuda will lock horns in the division one league. Uganda will face Kenya, Canada and Bermuda.
“We shall use the trip to expose more of our players ahead of the Australia tour. I am optimistic the boys will learn a lot playing against big sides,†Robert Kisubi, chairman national selection committee remarked.
Uganda will use the tour to prepare for the Division Three World Cricket League in Australia against USA, PNG, Tanzania, Malaysia, Caiman Islands and Oman in June and July.
Uganda Cricket Association has also lined up a trip to South Africa for a series of build-up matches before touring Australia.
Meanwhile, former national team coach Tom Tikolo has won a top award from the Kenyan government for his services to cricket.
He got the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) on Jamhuri Day, December 12.
Tikolo is a former Kenya team captain and is currently the sport’s chief executive officer.
