MBALE Heroes has signed former Express coach Jimmy Muguwa. Muguwa will be on the bench today when the struggling Mbale soccer side host Kampala giants SC Villa in a Super League game.

Club vicechairman Sulaiman Kiwanuka confirmed the recruitment yesterday. Muguwa replaces Mathias Lule who was sacked. This followed pressure from fans who blamed him for the team’s poor performance in the 17-team league.

Muguwa guided Express to the semi-finals of the African Club Championship in the nineties, and has handled several national junior teams. He also coached in Kenya and Rwanda.
Mbale has attracted several top-class coaches in the past decade.

Frank ‘Video’ Anyau, currently at URA, was with the team a season back.
Sam Ssimbwa earlier guided them to Kakungulu Cup glory in 1999.

Muguwa faces a tough first test against a Villa side, eager to take command at the top of the table.

Villa coach Asumani Lubowa believes that in Oscar Kadenge, they have a player who will ensure they return with maximum away points against Heroes.
“He is not fully fit but he will still be our play-maker,” revealed Lubowa, who will be missing the services of suspended Najib Yusuf.

Kadenge scored a brace in Villa’s opening encounter against KCC on November 25.

Tonny Ndoolo, Joseph Owino and Mike Azira should be able to continue with their good defensive record that has seen them let in only three goals in six league outings.
