EVERY Christmas eve, more than 1,000 children gather at Miracle Centre Cathedral Rubaga to celebrate Christmas in what may be the biggest children’s Christmas party in the land.

For the last three years, street children mingle with children from the rich and middle class families, living in the suburbs of Kampala like Bweyogere, Nakulabye, Makerere, Luzira and Kawempe as they celebrate Christmas. Some walk to the cathedral while the cathedral’s double-deck buses transport others.

To every child who has been at the party, it has become their highlight of the year. The party is filled with games like talking Muppets, music, dance competitions, gift presentations and serving of food and cake.

For children with homes, it was an early Christmas but for those without homes, it was the only Christmas they had.

As Pastor Robert Kayanja once stated, there are children who do not know the feeling of Christmas because they do not have families to celebrate Christmas with. The church always wants to remind such children that there is someone who cares for them at a time when everyone around is celebrating.
