PRIMARY Leaving Examination results are scheduled to be released this week, the director of education has said.

Dr. John Mbabazi elaborated: “PLE results may be released by next (this) week so that we start making arrangements for the implementation of Universal Secondary Education.”

He was on Friday addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

The secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board, Matthew Bukenya (above), said the exact date of releasing the results was not yet confirmed.

Bukenya explained: “Our duty is to do the necessary work of marking and preparing the results. When they are to be released is the decision of the minister of education.”

But a source said the results would be released on Friday.
Over 420,000 candidates sat for the examinations in 2006.

This will be the first batch of students to benefit from Universal Secondary Education.

Only candidates who sat in 2006 and score aggregate 4 to 32 will benefit from the programme.
