LEADERS in Budaka have asked the Government to take over the management of seven primary schools started by communities in the district ‘to make primary education more accessible’.
“The district education officer went around and verified that they meet all the requirements,†the LC5 chairman, Samuel Mulomi, said.
This was in a report to the Minister of Education and Sports, Namirembe Bitamazire, during her visit to the area recently.
The schools include Wairagala in Lyama sub-county, St. Karoli in Kodiri-Kaderuna sub-county, Bujjasi and Tangoli both found in Budaka Town Council. Others are Kaperi in Kaderuna sub-county, Chaali in Budaka sub-county and Bunomwera in Kamonkoli sub-county.
The district education officer, Owen Tembeiza, appealed to the Government to establish a seed secondary school in Kamonkoli sub-county to absorb the large number of students who drop out due to failure to join Kamonkoli College, the sub-county’s only government-aided secondary school.
“The sub-county has nine primary schools, with a total enrolment of 8,162 pupils. The community has already donated 10 acres of land for construction of the school to be called Jami Secondary School,†Tembeiza said.
Bitamazire, who launched the construction of a seed school in Lyama sub-county, urged communities to embrace the UPE and universal secondary education programmes to improve literacy levels.
