BIG Strikers’ preparations for the Badru Lusambya versus Fred George fight were yesterday boosted with a sh1m from UABF president Roger Ddungu.

The promotion’s directors Emmanuel Mwesigwa and Ernest Matovu got the news at the fight’s launch at Fairway Hotel.

“I’ve just received a call from Ddungu about the offer,” Matovu told journalists at the press conference.

“It’s a big boost,” said Mwesigwa, whose worries about whether gate collections, will be enough to clear the boxers’ purses were put to rest.

Lusambya will battle Tanzania’s George over 10 rounds in a light middleweight fight at Fairway Hotel.

The fight is partly sponsored by the hotel, which will offer a venue and accommodation for the fighters.

Ddungu, who took the local boxing body’s presidency in December, has promised to improve standards of the sport.

This was however his first offer for the paid ranks. He also plans to put up an office complex for the boxing body.
