A businessman who was recently accused of smuggling wine into the country has refused to pay the taxes levied on the captured merchandise, saying a truck and boat got during the operation are missing.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently ordered Joshua Kasibo to pay over 220m in taxes and penalties.
The wines were valued at sh250m.
Several vehicles were also impounded during the exercise.

Kasibo says he can only pay when his truck and boat are recovered. He claims the boat is valued at sh80m.
He also alleges that the unregistered truck was taken to an unknown destination.

Kasibo’s lawyer, McDusman Kabega, will meet URA’s commissioner general Allen Kagina over the matter today.

However, URA’s Patrick Mukiibi says Kasibo’s claims were inteded to tarnish the body’s image. He said all impounded goods were at the revenue offices.
