  • Do not take sides in any of the cases you are arbitrating.

  • Listen to both sides carefully, before passing judgement.

  • Know which cases can be handled by your court. You should not handle capital offenses.

  • Avoid taking bribes from any of the complainants. It will compromise your judgement.

  • Hold hearings in public and involve the entire village.

  • Use mediation as much as possible so that complainants reach a compromise.

  • Consult your colleagues in the LC system elsewhere.
