Celebrated American music evangelist, Vicki Yohe, is in town for a concert at the Miracle Centre Cathedral, Rubaga this Sunday. The show, scheduled to start at 4:00pm, is free.

Yohe, widely believed to possess one of the most anointed voices in contemporary gospel music, will first lead the praise and worship session during the morning service at the cathedral, before her highly anticipated afternoon performance.

The cathedral’s praise and worship choirs will curtain raise for Yohe on a night that will be enveloped in great inspirational gospel music and dance.

This is Yohe’s second visit. The singer first visited Uganda in 1998 at the invitation of Pastor Robert Kayanja.

A very common voice and face on Trinity Broadcasting Network and Uganda’s Light House Television, Yohe has touched and changed lives of millions across the globe with hits such as The Mercy Seat, Under The Blood and Something About My Praise.

She has ministered in song along side well-known pastors and evangelists like Benny Hinn, TD Jakes, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar. And her song, Because Of Who You Are, taken off her 2002 album, I Just Want You, earned her a Dove Award nomination in 2004.

Her latest album, He’s Been Faithful, produced by Cece Winan’s Purespring Gospel label on September 27, 2005, is as critical as it is symbolic.
“This new album has taken my music to a whole new place musically and spiritually and I love every song,” says Vicki. “It is very close to my heart in lots of ways because it reflects where I am in my ministry and in my daily walk with the Lord,” Yohe revealed.

Yohe, who describes her music genre as ‘Praise & Worship with a Gospel flavour’, commands a wide appeal within fans of multiple musical genres. Inside her music is a philosophical message meant to unify Black and White Christians in America.

“I believe God is in the process of tearing down walls between the ‘black’ and the ‘white church’… The Lord loves all of His children the same way,’ Yohe argued in a recent interview.

The preacher’s daughter
Yohe’s musical achievement and spiritual disposition are not a sudden occurrence or thing of chance. Her father was a preacher in Lousiana, USA, where she was born and raised. Such a religious environment became a solid foundation for her Christian upbringing.

It also moulded her singing and musical abilities since she was constantly exposed to great gospel music in her home and in the community.

By the age of five, she had written and sang her first song! Her environment continued to influence her as she grew up.

“When I was 12, I was sitting in a huge auditorium, watching my mentor, Mickey Mangun, singing with everything she had! At that moment, I leaned over to my mum and said, ‘Someday that will be me.”

True to her dreams, she worked towards becoming a gospel musician. At the age of 17, Yohe enrolled in Jackson College of Ministries, where she studied music in ministry. After college, she became a music director in Los Angeles. When she turned 19, her family surprised her with the funds to record her first CD (Vicki Yohe).

She performed in many concerts and in the process developed a large fan base. The next 10 years saw her music career soar. She recorded six albums with three different record labels and preached to people through her songs, along side pastors like Juanita Bynum, Benny Hinn and TD Jakes. Her newfound status made her a frequent guest on TBN and other Christian televisions stations worldwide.

Yohe is married to Troy Hodges, who is also in the country. Unfortunately, their nine-year marriage failed to give them a child. But on March 28, 2005, they adopted a baby boy who became the inspiration for the title of her latest album, He’s Been Faithful.

During their stay, the two will visit New Destiny for Children, an orphanage they founded in Jinja more than a year ago.
