Vacancies will be filled when EC
SIR — The Electoral Commission (EC) has learnt of plans by Democratic Party (DP) supporters in Rubaga, Kampala city to demonstrate over unfilled vacancies for councillors in the division. Rubaga Division is not the only place with such vacancies.
SIR — The Electoral Commission (EC) has learnt of plans by Democratic Party (DP) supporters in Rubaga, Kampala city to demonstrate over unfilled vacancies for councillors in the division. Rubaga Division is not the only place with such vacancies.
The EC is aware of a total of 1,749 vacancies for councillors at district, municipality and sub-county levels throughout the country and has arrangements to secure funds required to fill them. Once the funds are secured, the EC will announce a comprehensive countrywide programme for filling the vacancies in Kampala (including Rubaga), and other parts of the country. We therefore appeal to DP supporters and people in other places to be patient as efforts to secure the required funds continue. We remain firmly committed to our mandate of conducting regular, free and fair elections and referenda.
