UNEB withheld no results

SIR — The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) would like to clarify on the article “UNEB withholds results of 8 districts†published on January 23.
UNEB has not withheld results of any district. PLE results were released on Friday, January 19. Thereafter, the first working day was Monday.
That is the day some District Inspectors of Schools were facilitated from their districts to travel and collect the results.
It was therefore wrong to assume that the results of districts that had not been picked by Monday had been withheld. Indeed by Tuesday morning all results had been picked.
Secondly, UNEB handles PLE entry/registration forms but not form X.
Thirdly, registration fees for UPE candidates are remitted directly to UNEB from the Ministry of Education whereas those for non-UPE candidates are collected from private schools and remitted by District Inspectors of Schools. None of the funds are remitted by Chief Administrative Officers.
