INTERNATIONAL soccer governing body FIFA has under its second phase of the Goal Project assistance to associations, granted Uganda a sh700m technical centre.

The football centre, to be run by a national technical director, will be located in Njeru on the outskirts of Jinja. Local soccer governing body FUFA announced that construction will start on a 10 acre site, after FIFA approves a technical drawing.

“A reply is expected from FIFA next month after which construction should start shortly,” said FUFA media committee boss Rogers Mulindwa.

The facility will have conference halls, a dinning hall to accomodate 150 people, a hostel with 45 beds, a parking lot for 100 cars, six offices and a standard playing pitch.

FIFA development officer Ashford Mamelodi was recently in Uganda for initial ground work on the project. He approved the 10 acre site.

The first phase of the Goal Project had Uganda getting an office block at Mengo, the infamous FUFA House. FUFA has just reclaimed it.
