KAMPALA - Dfcu Bank is training women entrepreneurs in financial management and planning, Peace Kabunga, the bank’s account relationship manager, has said. The two-month training is being conducted by Enterprise Uganda at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. “We have been interacting with women to decide how to serve them better. Many said banks neglect them. Women are not confident because of the way society treats them. This training is going to help them build confidence so that they can deal with banks as partners, not beggars,” Kabunga said.

New sugar firm to open

JINJA - A new sugar factory, G.M. Sugar Works, will open soon in Nakibizzi, trade state minister Gaggawala Wambuzi has said. “The factory is on a smaller scale than existing ones, but will increase sugar production,” Gaggawala said. The factory’s owner, M. Mukesh, said $3 (sh5.3b) -$4m (sh7b) had been invested and the factory would produce 20 tonnes daily. Gaggawala said G.M. had advertised for over 30 managers.

PostBank gives sh55m loans

KABALE - PostBank has given out 25 motorcycles on a loan basis worth sh55m to Kabale Bodaboda Cyclists Association. It is the first loan of its kind offered by the bank. The bank’s credit manager, Steven Mukoba, handed over the motorcycles to the beneficiaries at Kigongi. “Each beneficiary deposited 25% of the total amount and will repay the loan in 24 months,” Mukoba said.

Nile Perch price up

APAC - The price of a kilogramme of nile perch has risen to sh1,200 in Amolatar and Apac. “Sometime we take the fish to markets for better prices. When chopped into pieces, a big nile perch fetches more money in local markets,” a fishmonger, Ocen-Jungulu, said. Kampala fish-buyers have agents at most landing sites.
