THERE are many shops in Kampala yet it is still difficult to shop.
Some shops are situated on congested streets, while others lack parking space. The rest are simply not easily accessible.

Shopping becomes easy when items are found at one centre. It helps customers to reduce on the stress of shopping. Other advantages include greater selection, better prices and better services.

The new shopping arcade opposite the Constitutional Square on Kampala Road is a good example. Recently, Select Garments opened up a branch there. The shop has everything from clothes to shoes under one roof.

Maggie Kigozi, the director of Uganda Investment Authority, recently commended Select Garments for its services. She said if everyone tackles the issues of extravagancy, savings and investment carefully, 2007 would be the year of smartness and better standards of living.

Other good examples of shopping centres are Game at the Lugogo shopping mall and Shoprite supermarkets.

If you have a problem making choices, buying from one stop centres helps solve it. Customers get several items from one place.

At Select Garments, accessorising is made easier for the customers. For instance, they place shoes next to a matching outfit. Diana, a shopkeeper, says customers should be able to find supportive, flexible and nice items from beach wear to office attire.

It is the duty of shopkeepers to note customers’ needs.

For example, that flat foot needs a built up sole to prevent the ankle from rolling in; a normal arch needs cushioning; a high arch needs even more cushioning.
