A humbled Gordon Wavamunno was last Wednesday admitted to the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (the order of St John) in the grade of Officer.
The Order is a British Order of Chivalry established under a Royal Charter of 1888 of which Queen Elizabeth is the head and the Duke of Gloucester, the Grand Prior. His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni is the patron .
Wavamunno’s admission was approved by her Majesty and was published in the London Gazette, a copy of which was sent to him following the visit to Uganda last October. The Order is also a major international NGO in the humanitarian field currently working in 43 mainly Commonwealth countries in the world.
The Order delivers its charitable output through two foundations – St John Ambulance and the St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem, which serves the people of Palestine.
In Uganda, St John Ambulance is being rejuvenated under Wavah’s excellent and energetic leadership and now has almost 1,000 volunteers across the country working in support of local communities.
