EIGHT students travelling to school ended up in hospital after they were involved in an accident on Masaka Road.
Four of those injured in the Sunday evening accident near Nabajjuzi swamp were teenagers from one family. Their father also sustained serious injuries.
The Police said the accident on Masaka-Kyotera road was caused by the driver of a Kyotera-bound commuter taxi as he tried to overtake a Coaster. He, however, collided with Hajji Haruna Mwanje of Gayaza, who was taking his four children back to school. They all sustained injuries. One of them, Hamuza Kyeyune, was unconscious at Masaka Hospital Emergency Ward.
The taxi had seven occupants including five students heading to Christ the King, Bulinda in Kalisizo for the new school term, which started yesterday
The injured students were Esther Mwiima, Shamimu Nabulya, Oliva Nanyonjo, Diana Hissa and Esther Kukkiriza all students of Christ the King Kalisizo.
Others were Kyeyune, Ashirafu Kabugu and Hamida Nampeera of Masaka SS.
The district traffic officer, Peter Kagina, blamed the taxi driver for reckless driving and warned drivers to take extra care especially when they are taking students back to school.
