Ruth Nalujja and Godfrey Male have been arrested for allegedly pretending to be General Salim Saleh’s agents and trying to obtain money from Busia district local government.

Isaac Amanya, the Busia district Police chief, said the two were notorious smugglers who had turned to more cunning ways of getting money.

He reported that they were part of a bigger gang, whose leader rang the resident district commissioner, Robinah Nabanja, claiming to be Salim Saleh, and asked her to pass sh1.5m to his agents who were stranded in Busia taxi park.

Nabanja then called the chief administrative officer, Roselyn Luhooni, who rushed to Stanbic Bank to get the money.

But a rat had been smelt. Nabanja said the voice of the impersonator fell below that of Salim Saleh.

Therefore, they asked the Police to accompany them as they took the money to the park.

Amanya revealed that when they called the number given to them by the impersonator, the two presented themselves and were arrested.

When his colleagues were arrested, the caller immediately switched off his phone.
