Vehicles in dangerous mechanical condition are now off the town roads. The Police have impounded 18 vehicles which were not fit to be on the road. Some of them had worn-out tyres or had no head lumps and indicators. The district Police commander, Chris Bagahare, said the cars also had faulty braking systems and non-functional brake lights.

Suspected killer arrested

The Police are holding a man suspected to have killed his 60-year-old aunt. Yusuf Mutaasa allegedly stabbed Alice Nabutono on Monday. He allegedly accused Nabutono of frustrating his efforts to sell the family land. The district Police commander, Frank Abalawuwe, said Mutaasa would be charged with murder.

Killer jailed seven years

A man who lynched a suspected defiler will enjoy free meals and accommodation at Kirinya Prison for seven years. Adula John, 45, who was a secretary for defence for Magamaga village in Mayuge district, lynched Samuel Okiror in September 2003. Okiror was allegedly found defiling a 14-year-old girl in his house.
