EX-INTERNATIONAL Paul Mukatabala scored his first goal of the season as Victors beat Police 1-0 at Nakivubo yesterday.

At 36 years, Mutakabala rediscovered form he enjoyed 15 years ago to strike off a Yuda Mugalu cross in the 27th minute as the team repeated a result they picked from the first round of the 2006 season.

Mutakabala, who was visibly excited with the goal, followed with several attempts to double it as Victors kept Police on the defensive for the better part of the game.

“It is a wonderful day for me. I’m not surprised because I have been doing well in training lately. Hopefully, I’ll continue scoring,” Mutakabala, who for the first time played the full 90 minutes this season, remarked after the game.

His contemporary at SC Villa, Simba FC coach Moses Basena, praised Mutakabala for the goal. “Because of his experience he positions well, uses his energy sparingly and above all he is quite intelligent.”

Victors move to the fifth place on the Super League table with 16 points, two behind Simba.

URA, meanwhile, have a chance to make up for their Champions league dismissal when they host troubled Express today.

The Namboole match will also be an opportune moment for coach Frank “video” Anyau to start improving on his unimpressive record lately.

The 2006 champions have drawn twice and lost once in six games and are 13th in the 17-team race.

But Anyau’s mixture of budding and seasoned talents like Phillip Obwiny, Patrick Ochan and Johnson Bagoole can turn the trend around.

For Bagoole, there will be a point to prove as he will be playing his former side.

URA’s enthusiasm for a win was evident at yesterday’s training. “All we want are three points,” Anyau promised.

The Red Eagles are picking up the pieces from turmoil. Cries of poor administration, unpaid allowances recently climaxed in the resignation of club chairman Sam Kiwanuka.

Elsewhere, the focus is on bottom of the table clash between City Lads and Mukono. David Otti’s Lads were full of promise at the league’s kick-off shooting down the Red Eagles.

But the Lugogo side has steadily declined since. Mukono, who are yet to win a match, at one point seemed to be on recovery with five almost consecutive draws but staggered with losses to KCC and Simba.

Masaka hosts Boroboro.
