WILSON Busienei and Martin Toroitich have been recalled to the national team to the World Cross Country championships March 24 in Mombasa.

The local athletics federation said they were taking nothing for granted, calling on the duo to bolster Uganda’s fight for a maiden podium finish in the senior men category.

They will join Boniface Kiprop, Moses Kipsiro and Isaac Kiprop as Uganda seeks to challenge long distance power houses Kenya and Ethiopia in the meet.

“The duo have a proven history. Their being on the team will boost our challenge,” said local athletics federation organising secretary Faustin Kiwa.

Busienei and Toroitich, were part of the senior men’s team at the 2005 championships. Busienei is recovering from malaria while Toroitich was out of the country during the national cross country.

The team will train for a month at the high altitude camp in Bukwo under coaches Moses Twesigomwe, Gordon Ahimbisibwe and Nalis Bigingo.

“The technical committee resolved on Saturday to prepare a team capable of putting up respectable challenge,” Kiwa disclosed.

The committee also upgraded two top women junior performers Dorcus Chesang and Faridah Chelangat to the senior women.

Dorcus Inzikuru, who will lead the senior women team, is expected from Europe next week.
