THE acting Katikkiro, Emmanuel Ssendaula, has assured the Baganda that there is no crisis at Mengo.
Ssendaula, who became the caretaker of the kingdom’s business on Tuesday after the sacking of Dan Muliika, asserted that the Mengo leadership would not be intimidated by rowdy youths.
He stated: “The Kabaka’s judgement is not rushed and is unquestionable. He had reasons for taking such a decision. A handful of youths cannot deter our course.â€
Groups of youths yesterday protested at Bulange against the sacking of Muliika alleging that it was a move by the central Government to weaken the kingdom. They have threatened to hold a bigger demonstration on Saturday.
Ssendaula explained that Buganda rejected the regional tier government because it provided for an elected Katikkiro yet Baganda want the Kabaka to appoint him.
He asserted: “If that is what we crave for, then why are some of the Kabaka’s subjects questioning the sacking of Muliika?â€
Ssendaula stressed the need for unity, adding that the main task was “to unite Mengo officials who had been divided over a number of issues.â€
He also cautioned his tribesmen against washing their dirty linen in public. “We are from the same family and we must be able to handle the situation.â€
Ssendaula, who will conduct a meeting for the new cabinet on Thursday, was optimistic that the Kabaka would announce the new Katikkiro in two-weeks’ time.
