THE Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) on Monday seized 55 rolls of substandard electric cables worth sh7m.

The cables were impounded from Sun Top Way Solar (U) Ltd shop on Portal Avenue in Kampala. Sun Top Way Solar deals in solar installations and systems.

Jackson Mubangizi, the UNBS head of market surveillance, said the shop allegedly had several other substandard electric solar cables.

“The impact of substandard electrical products on the power sector seems to be enormous.

“Consumers are affected through destruction of property and increased power bills due to abnormally high resistance of materials,” Mubangizi told reporters during a press conference in Kampala
