CONRAD Nkutu, the managing director of the Monitor Publications Ltd, has not been sacked, according to the Nation Media Group.
The group’s chief executive officer, Linus Gitahe, yesterday dismissed the claim as “rumours.†“It is not true that he has been fired,†Gitahe stressed while speaking on phone from Nairobi, Kenya.
In his Saturday column in the New Vision, the presidential advisor on media, John Nagenda, stated that Nkutu had been relieved of his duties.
Asked yesterday about what he stated in his column, Nagenda replied: “I absolutely stand by everything I said. It is true.â€
He asserted that he had more details on the matter in case anyone challenged him.
Gitahe, however, insisted that Nkutu was not about to be sacked. “We cannot live by responding to rumours.â€
He argued that Nkutu was aware of the Nation Media Group’s procedures, which according to him (Gitahe) had not been invoked to sack him.
Nkutu has been heading the Monitor based in Namuwongo, Kampala, for over three years.
