RESIDENTS of Dokolo district have received 261 cattle from the government as part of the restocking programme.

Addressing beneficiaries on Saturday, the Dokolo LC5 chairman, John B Okello Okello commended the Government for fulfilling its promise to the people of Dokolo.

“The animals should not be used for paying your children’s bride price but instead used to generate income,” he said.

Sub-counties that have benefited include Dokolo, Agwata and Bata.
Kwera and Kangai sub-counties, which received part of the contribution, will be included in the next distribution.

Over 320 animals are expected to be given out in the second phase that starts soon.

Okello instructed local leaders to follow up on the animals given and report incidents that interfere with the distribution exercise.

The district veterinary officer, Patrick Enyang, commented: “Much as the animals are marked as vaccinated, we shall routinely inspect them to ensure that they are all treated.”

The cattle were distributed under the management of Elyon Procurement Service Limited, headed by John Frances Ariko.

Restocking of northern Uganda is handled by the Prime Minister’s office.
