BUGANDA Road Court yesterday issued a warrant of arrest for Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, the former minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development.
Chief Magistrate Margaret Tibulya also issued a warrant of arrest for Leonard Mpuuma, the former managing director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and James Isabirye, the managing director of Mugoya Estates.
The warrant was issued after the trio defied court’s summons three times.
Bakoko faces charges of abuse of office.
Prosecution claims that while still a minister, Bokoko allegedly approved a wrong company to enter a joint venture with NSSF, causing the company a sh8b loss.
Mpuuma faces charges of causing financial loss by accepting a bribe worth $350,000 from Isabirye. Isabirye faces charges of giving Mpuuma $350,000 (637m) to induce him to use his position to award him a joint venture with NSSF.
Tibulya directed that the suspects be arrested and taken to court on February 28 to plead to the charges.
Tibulya rejected an application by McDusman Kabega, saying that his clients are sick.
Bakoko is reportedly bed-ridden in London, while Mpuuma is said to be sick in Nairobi hospital. Isabirye was also reportedly sick.
