THE rainy afternoon didn’t upset Aloysious Kimera’s efforts of winning the 2007 Hima Cement Golf Challenge at Kampala Golf Club on Saturday.

A total of 185 players participated in the 18-hole event. Group winners included Steven Birungi, V. Kananathan, Dr. James Sekajugo and Esther Okulo, the ladies winner.

The evening was awash with rewards including some off the green. Peter Asiimwe was rewarded for being best locker room attendant and Sheba Nakigudde for being the best waitress.

2006 committee members received certificates of recognition. Ashuwing, Kananathan’s 12-year-old, son received a prize for his participation.

Like David Njoroge, the Hima Cement general manager, said, the company is here to stay and would consider sponsoring the event again next year.

Dr. Martin Aliker, a director at Hima, appreciated those who took part. The firm has supported the golf club for five years, including repainting it.

Like is usually the case at similar events, the night ended on the dance floor where prizes were also dished out to the best dancers.
