VENDORS in Mukono central Market live in uncertainty as the Town Council plans to evict them to redevelop the market.

Justine Nabulime, a charcoal seller says, “ I come here every morning, but you may never see me here again because the town council plans to evict all of us.”

Dan Mulumba, the market chief, says efforts to convince the LC3 chairman, Johnson Muyanja to allow them continue operating were futile.

“Muyanja told me the market is in shambles, but we suspect the council leased out the market,” Mulumba said.

However, Muyanja denied leasing the market. He said: “We have instead entered a joint agreement with a private firm to develop the market.

Muyanja said developing the market would boost the town council’s bid for the municipality status.
