NAKASONGOLA district officials have asked the Government to begin the implementation of the Bonna Bagaggawale (prosperity for all) programme with their district.

“There is no doubt that the programme will be successful, if we are given chance,” Fredrick Bandumba the district vice-chairman, told micro finance state minister Gen. Salim Saleh, recently.

Saleh was in the district to launch a cassava processing plant owned by Nakasongola District Farmers Association (NADIFA) at Wabigalo sub-county. The association has 40,000 members.

“All the sub-counties have organised themselves and we are anxiously waiting for the funds,” Bandumba said.

He said the district had a number of investment ventures including cattle rearing and cassava growing.

Saleh commended the association, saying: “NADIFA has fought food insecurity and they are potential candidates for the Bonna Bagaggawale programme.”

He, however, informed residents that whereas prosperity for all is intended to address all the structural constraints faced in production, the communities also need to do something for themselves.

Saleh said the Government wants to ensure that people can access loans at affordable interest rates. However, he showed concern that 17 districts in the country do not have any financial institution operating in their area.
